Sustainable plant nutrition and nitrogen

The theme of sustainable plant nutrition is important to the sustainable management of nitrogen. The crop nutrition industry has played a large role in enhancing the earth’s capacity to support human life.

Since 1960, the global population has more than doubled and yet the average person today is better nourished, owing largely to crop yield increases supported by a sixfold increase in fertilizer use. Among the crop nutrients, nitrogen plays the largest role. Sustainable outcomes can be attained implementing the principles of 4R Nutrient Stewardship to improve nitrogen use efficiency and reduce the nitrogen losses of highest priority.
